My weekends totally fly by lately which leaves me little time for updating the blog. This is a bit of a drive by post, but if it doesn’t happen now it might not at all as I’ll be out of town for the next three days. So here we go:

Saturday there was spinning at Risa’s!

Spinning at Risa's (2)

That’s Risa, Deb, Ina and myself. Kim and L. are MIA in this picture. I think L. was getting a spinning lesson.

I took pictures of what everyone was working on.

Our spinning at Risa's

Click on the pic to head over to flickr to see the notes about each bobbin. The photo in the bottom right is of the “Jersey Spinners” that Ina made for each of us. Really cool!

The food was awesome, the company was even better. The sunburn wasn’t too bad (I really had no idea I’d gotten cooked until I was sitting in the car wondering why my arms stung a bit!), and I left with some newly carded wool and a bag for my wheel! Thanks again for an awesome afternoon ladies!

Things didn’t go so well after the party however. My 1 hour trip to Long Island took more like 2.5 hours. I will *never* go across the GWB again if I don’t have to! At least I had a sock to knit on while I was standing still. And I even snapped a pic of a view I don’t usually get of NYC:

New York, NY

I also ate my leftover salad in the car with my camping chopsticks (a gift from HWJF when we first started dating) which are always in my purse. They have saved my hypoglycemic butt more than once in such a situation.

By the time I got my 87 year old grandfather in the car and we fought more traffic back upstate we didn’t get to my parent’s house until 11:30pm (translation: way past my bedtime). The next day was spent mostly making a new spinning tool (more on that soon) and going back to NJ for a graduation party.

Today HWJF and I head back to my parent’s after work for three days to celebrate the 4th. They are still on dial-up, so I don’t hold any high hopes for much blogging there.

I’ll leave you with this birthday meme, which several people have tagged me for. Here are the rules: You go to Wikipedia and type in your birthday (only the month and day). Then you write down 3 events, 2 births, 1 holiday, and then you tag 5 friends.

March 10

3 Events

1804Louisiana Purchase: In St. Louis, a formal ceremony is conducted to transfer ownership of Louisiana Territory from France to the United States.

1876Alexander Graham Bell makes the first successful telephone call by saying “Mr. Watson, come here, I want to see you.”

2006Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter arrives at Mars.

2 Births

1892Arthur Honegger, French-born Swiss composer (d. 1955)

1957 – Osama bin Laden, Saudi-born Islamic extremist [this knowledge is disturbing beyond belief!]

1 Holiday

As always, do it if you want to and don’t if you don’t!

Hope you all have a happy 4th if you are in the States (and even if you aren’t!). Back as soon as I can with sock progress, spinning tools and more! :)

    Tibetan Uprising Day.

    Who knew?

Will have to mark that on my calendar, if only for the joy I will have, come March 10th in standing out in the crowd of “Happy Birthday” wishers, by being the sole purveyor of “Happy Tibetan Uprising Day” greetings.

Does Hallmark make a card for that?

    Blessings!

Taking you up on the meme. Have a great 4th! (our town fireworks are cancelled due to extreme fire danger; disappointing but also well justified)

It was a fun day! GWB traffic totally sucks! What a good granddaughter you are, going to all that trouble to get your g-pa. Enjoy your days off!

Saturday was such a blast. I’m so glad you could make it. Sorry about the GWB. Ick. I’ve spent many an hour trying to make my way out to LI. If I wasn’t standing still on the bridge, it was the stupid Cross Bronx Expressway or then trying to get over the Throgs Neck Bridge. I hated the trip when we went to visit grandma during the summer and could then add in the Jones Beach traffic jam.

Nice picture of the NYC skyline. I never get over looking at it and living so close to it.

Your spinning outside looks like such fun! One of these days I’m gonna learn to spin. I have a question for you about yarn shops in NYC … I think you might be able to help me. Would you mind to email me privately?

    Thanks!

The GW Bridge, well, that makes at least one thing I don’t miss about living in the tri-state area. Glad you had fun spinning, though, and I hope you have a relaxing long weekend!

I am new to your website, and just wanted to give kudos. :)
I have saved your link and will definitely be back. Always great to see a fellow musician of sorts on the net. :)
