I’m about to make a public admission that may shock and appall you.

Ready?

I, Jessica, being of sound mind and fast needles, am no longer in love with socks.

I can hear you swoon. Please cushion your fall!

The evidence of such a heinous admission? This:

Fasset socks, one almost done

Been on the needles since August 2007. People? I can finish a pair of socks for any of the abnormally large human feet in these parts in a week if I want to do so. Going on five months? That’s just silly! And this is only sock number one.

Clearly, the honeymoon is over.

wow… I was sitting on my couch so I didn’t fall over too hard. I did notice that you are on a sweater kick though…

Interesting new title bar. Something new for the new year? It’ll take a few days to get used to it but I like it.

  2. Mintyfresh says:

New apartment, new home for the blog, too? I’ve been thinking about some kind of redesign, but I don’t know if I want to take the time . . . That sock looks like a boring one, so it’s no wonder. :)

  3. Helen says:

You need some ‘pattern’ in your life, your socks and not your yarn. Time to try the stripes in a lace patterned lock, maybe. I’m working on Sock 2 for hubby. He likes them straight up. Preferably with ribs, but I’m not ribbing for that long a foot twice, but even stockinette is taking its toll. This will be the last sock for him for a while. Next one is mine, all mine and with some kind of knit pattern either two stranding color or lace stuff. The header picture caught my eye. Where’s it from…cool.

  4. laura says:

oh it will come back. i see sock/sweater/dishcloth whatever come in and out. you’re on a sweater kick now and thats fine. socks know you still love them. it’s not the end of the world.

ditto on getting used to the new format

  5. Carole says:

I don’t believe it. But if you need to unload all your sock yarn, well, I could help you with that. . .

  6. Wendy says:

I’m sorry, but I am going to have to go lie down.

  7. stacey says:

love the new design!!! great banner!!

    maybe it’s just THAT sock??

  8. Risa says:

I would be shocked had I not also fallen out of love with socks myself. I totally think we overdosed on the darn things. I’ve cast on a few, ripped em out, but I don’t think I’ve actually finished one since September. Very sad. Especially when one considers the size of my sock yarn stash! I’m hoping the mojo does return.

  9. Karen says:

Well, maybe you just need a little Sock Vacation. I’m sure the love will be back again, stronger than ever.

Speaking of love – I love the new blog look!!

  10. --Deb says:

I hear you . . . I’m kind of bored with socks these days, too and haven’t started a new pair since I finished the handspun ones a month or so ago. Just, very . . . “meh” about the whole thing.

    I like your new look!

  11. Beth says:

My sock mojo is gone too. :(

  12. Sharon says:

Wow…no words. You’re like the sock queen in my book. All is not lost. The mojo will be be back….once you’ve languished on sleeve island for awhile. :-)

  13. Cookie says:

I feel ya. Socks are nice and everything, but there’s more out there to knit than just socks.

    Love the new layout.

  14. Ina says:

Whoa! The blog looks different! Love the blue swirly things.

Surely sock mojo or the lack thereof is of concern only if you want it to be. (My anti-spam word is… sock!)

  15. Nicole says:

It’s not summer. Therefore no socks. Right?

(Then again, my socks are languishing right now, too. Maybe it’s catching…)

  16. Lazuli says:

That admission makes me sad! But, it’s ok. We knit what makes us happy, right? Or at least we should. I think working on sweaters, etc, for a while is fine. If the sock mojo wants to come back, it will. Just go with the flow!

  17. Kim says:

My mouth literally fell open in shock. Something is going around, that’s for sure. Your neighbor the lace & sock knitter has turned into the sweater knitter. I’ve been on a fingerless glove kick lately and think about hats and sweaters and scarves all the time. I used to think mostly about socks. I am glad you had the courage to fess up.

  18. Dee says:

    Oh say it ain’t so!!!!

    That IS shocking.

  19. Anne says:

Too vanilla? Too much other stuff going on? I’m plugging away and Muir and longing to cast on some socks, but have a deadline so no can do! But what is really interesting for me right now is that I have completely lost the desire to oogle yarn online, in stores, no desire to buy yarn…at all. Instead, while I still love the process of knitting, I’m lusting after cans of paint, lamps, you get the idea. Never know when or if the desire will return–for me or you! :)

  20. terby says:

I hear ya. My socks are languishing, and I just can’t get motivated to work on them. Lace, on the other hand…

  21. Karen says:

I have thought that about myself several times. It hasn’t been true yet.

  22. Sharon says:

Your fickleness astounds, Jessica!!! Hah! Not at all. The big question is what has your heart right now? I predict that one day you will tiptoe in the sock tulips again.

  23. Heather says:

Honey I am so with you on this, I also have one languishing on the needles for over5 months. Socks just seem so…pointless.

  24. Barb says:

Is there a blue moon or something? Are pigs flyings? Whoa!

  25. amy says:

But it is a very nice looking sock. I’m sure it will wait patiently for it’s partner.

    Love the new look!

  26. Sacha says:

…and the irony is the anti-spam word is sock for me this time. :D Maybe it’s just a phase and you’ll find yourself coming back to socks. I look forward to whatever you decide to knit up. :)

  27. Debi says:

You and Beth?? Armageddon is near!! :)

Try some wristers….quick, easy, portable like socks but not socks!

  28. JessaLu says:

    yikes! *thud*

  29. twig says:

    EXCUSE ME?!?!?!?!?!?

  30. Sarah says:

I hear you. I go through phases like this all the time, not just with knitting but with general Life Things. I think that I am currently on the tail end of a sock phase — I made a bunch (by my standards :-) ) of socks over the last few months, along with a bunch of pairs of fingerless mitts (which are basically just like socks) and the ones I have going now are…languishing. I expect I’ll get obsessed with something else any time now…

  31. Kristy says:

I don’t think you should worry about it too much. Enjoy the sweater craze, because sweaters are harder to knit (transport, plan) than socks, and socks will be a welcome change eventually.

  32. Jodie says:

The socks are in St St! No wonder your not knitting them. Get them off the needles so you can start something more fun!

  33. Brenda says:

What a pretty sock! Maybe you just need a bit of a vacation from the sock knitting. I was a little off sock knitting and then I felted three pairs accidentally, which quickly brought me back to wanting to knit socks.
