The conference is going well but I’m just about ready to go home. I never sleep well during these things so I’ll be wishing for some extra time off when I get back. Too bad that won’t happen.

The wifi situation here has been less than ideal (read: What the hell do you mean I have to PAY for it when I’m paying over $100 a night for a hotel room?!?) so I’m going to have to make this quick (and the Panera I’m in keeps randomly blocking Flickr! ARRRGH!!!).

On Wednesday I saw two Vanderbilt mansions. Marblehouse:

Marble House

And the Breakers.

The Breakers (10)

Both amazing. Make sure you click over to Flickr and look at the rest of the set those two pics are in.

While I’ve been here I started yet another new project:

Crafting 365.33 - New project, bog jacket

It’s a Bog Jacket by EZ. Perfect for long boring meeting knitting. The yarn is from Green Mountain Spinnery that I picked up last year when we went to Vermont. It’s a singles yarn and seems almost felted off the skein, but washes up and blooms nicely after knitting. I fell in love with the project after seeing this one on Ravelry and hope mine ends up looking as nice. I plan to incorporate all her shaping suggestions so that should keep things interesting.

Well, time to get back to the conference and hopefully I’ll have a wrap up of that and all the knitters here early next week. Have a great weekend everyone! :)

I have grand delusions that one day I’m going to live in a mansion like that.

I love buildings. Especially beautifully ornate buildings. Have you seen the capital buildings here in NY? The carvings alone will get ya.

I hope you manage to get out today!!!

Newport is amazing – we got married there (on Goat Island) and loved it!!!!! A friend got married at the Breakers a few years back….

It’s called “conference/seminar/training” so they can charge you because usually the business people don’t have to pay for it, the company does. I agree with you if I was paying my own way, I wouldn’t want to pay to use the internet either!

I’m guessing that you’re in Newport then, huh?? Gotta love that Gilded Age excess!

I was in Newport this past weekend, and we went to the Breakers too. It was unbelievable! And to think that it was just a summer cottage …

Travel safe – it’s snowing hard!

When I toured the Breakers, the docent went on and on, very solemnly, about how the dining room chairs are so heavy, it’s impossible to be seated or to leave the table without assistance. I couldn’t help it – I burst out laughing. Although I did rather like the hot and cold running water, fresh and salt, in all the bathrooms.

That yarn looks awesome! I think that Bog Jacket on Ravelry is very compelling– I’m looking forward to seeing how yours comes out.

Just like the one on Ravelry…except, of course, yours will be blue.
