Y’all sure know how to make a party happen!! I’m pretty overwhelmed by the response to the Summer of Socks 2008 so far. We had 250 people sign up in the first 24 hours! The Ravelry group is already going strong and many have already joined up over on Flickr too. The donations are starting to roll in as well and I think this is going to be another great year. Take a look at the drop downs on the left to see who is already playing along. And there is still time to join us as a participant or a donor so go sign up!

In the meantime I’ve got another FO for you this week!

XO Socks

XO Socks

Pattern: XO Socks. Made up by me
Yarn: Socks that Rock Mediumweight in Monsoon
Needles: Size 2 addis
Knit: 4/1-4/27/2008

My “emergency” knitting for the Yarn Harlot event in NYC has become an FO! I had fun making these socks and I’m sure the kick off event that started them didn’t hurt! I really didn’t like the colors in this yarn when I first got it in the club last year, but it really grew on me as I knit along.

I used a pretty traditional cable pattern for these as something to keep me a little bit occupied while they were being knit. Luckily HWJF didn’t mind since they would ultimately be for him. I did run into one road block though. I originally put a cable up the center back of the sock, but I didn’t allow for enough extra stitches to compensate for them pulling in the fabric. I discovered this after I finished the first sock and HWJF tried it on. By that time I was already on to the second sock, so I left out the back cable on the second sock and it fit fine. I then took out the bind off of the first sock and laddered down the cable stitches:

I picked them back up in stockinette and I had a finished pair of socks!

The cables have plenty of mistakes design elements, but I wasn’t really looking for perfection in these. The boy has happy feet and that’s all I care about!

There is another sock on the needles, but I will have to share that another day. In the meantime, I am off to Maryland Sheep and Wool with Risa tonight!! I can’t believe it’s finally that time of year!! If you see me, do stop me and say hi. And do a little sun dance, will ya? I don’t want to bring home a wet fleece. ;)

I leave you with a couple of fuzzy critter pics since they have been so lacking this week:

Simba 4.17.08 (4)
She’s starting to realize that the annoying fluffy white thing isn’t going away.

Fluffy little Stitches
I can’t believe my little girl is growing up so fast. She’ll be even fluffier when I get back from Maryland!

See you on Monday with a festival report!! :) Have a great weekend!!

    Have a great weekend!

Your Monsoon surgery was impressive. Definitely preferable to ripping the whole leg, but still quite an undertaking.

That second photo was heart attack inducing… 0_o They are cute though…I have that yarn stashed away somewhere.

I honestly don’t know how you unravelled that much to fix a cable!! And have it look great when its finished!

BTW would it be easier to add Orlando to the end of my name? I see there are quite a few Lynns listed under summer of socks!

I’m so sad we missed each other!!!!! The weather was perfect though – the sun dance people did must have worked!

Nice job on the socks – the laddering down thing to me is always the neatest trick!

  16. Danielle says:

That bunny is too ridiculously cute!

  17. Kim says:

Nice socks! I like how they striped. The photo of the unraveled cable scared me! Eeek. Stitches sure does look bigger. The fur around her face looks almost like a hair-do.
MDSW was so much fun! You got your wish for sun too.
