I can hardly believe this myself, but guess who’s coming to Rhinebeck with me?!?!?

HWJF!!!

Don’t ask me how it happened, but he somehow got the whole weekend off and decided to come with me. I’m a little afraid he’ll be bored after about 5 min. of pumpkin chuckin’, but I guess we’ll see what happens.

In that spirit, I made him fold socks while he answered the questions to this meme that’s been going around. I found it too entertaining on other blogs not to give it a whirl here. Enjoy!

Me: What is your favorite thing about my knitting?
HWJF: There’s always part of your day that you look forward to. There’s always something for you to look forward to no matter what kind of day you’ve had. I like that you are able to share with other people something that you enjoy and that builds friendships that might not otherwise exist. And every now and then, I get cool shit!

Me: What is your least favorite thing about my knitting?
HWJF: Sometimes you can’t just sit still.

Me: What is something I have knitted that you recall as being good?
HWJF: That sweater you ruined was pretty good.
Me: Which one?
HWJF: The bassoon camp one.
Me: Oh that.
HWJF: Every sweater that you’ve made for yourself has turned out pretty good.
Me: If you say so.

Me: Do you think knitters have an expensive hobby?
HWJF: Eh, depends on how you look at it.
Me: What do you mean by that.
HWJF: There are worse hobbies. You could be into giant boats or methamphetamines, but if you look at it as a pair of socks you have to make yourself costs over $20.00 that might seem excessive.
Me: So what’s your point?
HWJF: It’s not so much the equipment as the habit.
Me: So are you saying knitting is expensive?
HWJF: For who, you or me?
Me: You!
HWJF: Yes, your knitting is one of my most expensive hobbies.
Me: You suck.

Me: Do you have any hobbies?
HWJF: I do have hobbies!

Me: What are your hobbies?
HWJF: Collecting things bassoon related, billiards and professional leisure a.k.a. sitting on the couch.

Me: So, if we compared money/time spent on hobbies, who would win?
HWJF: Oh you would win.
Me: Yeah, you work too much.
HWJF: Most of my hobbies are spread out equally, yours seem to be combined into one.
Me: Ummm… ok?

Me: Do you have a stash of any kind?
HWJF: I’ve got a closet full of bassoon crap, sure.

Me: Has my knitting in public ever embarrassed you?
HWJF: Uh… yes.
Me: When?
HWJF: I can think of a couple of superbowl parties to name a few. For someone who’s supposed to be a big sports nut they sure know how to make themselves stick out like a sore thumb.
Me: Well at least I know what the blue line is!!!

Me: Can you name another knitting blog?
HWJF: Yes. Crazy Fiber Lady which is Risa.
HWJF: There’s Wendy Knits.
HWJF: Woolybuns and I probably know another one….

Me: Do you mind that I want to check out yarn stores everywhere we go?
HWJF: No I think it’s kind of fun. I usually initiate some of that stuff too.

Me: Do you understand the importance of a swatch?
HWJF: Yeah.

Me: Do you know what a swatch is?
HWJF: A swatch helps determine the gauge of your pattern and yarn.

Me: Do you read Zarzuela Knits?
HWJF: Yes.

Me: Have you ever left a comment?
HWJF: Yes. HWJF has stopped by from time to time.

Me: Do you think the house would be cleaner if I didn’t knit?
HWJF: Yes. As I sit here surrounded by fiber from carding all day.

Me: Is there anything else you want to say?
HWJF: *laughs* Yes, but you probably don’t want to hear it.

One last question: What are you looking forward to most about Rhinebeck??
HWJF: Signing autographs. ;)

He’s so cute! And not just because he knows I blog. I don’t think he’ll get bored. I think he’ll get hooked on something.

Those are the most amusing answers I’ve seen to date. Getting the answer to the question of whether knitting is an expensive hobby was like pulling teeth though, huh. :)

  12. Ina says:

Excellent interview! HWJF obviously knows nothing about blogger bingo, else he wouldn’t jest about autographs at Rhinebeck. Knit bloggers WILL find him! And squee over him and ask delightfully cryptic things like, “Cobblestone?”

  13. Carolyn says:

Great interview! I can’t wait to meet him at Rhinebeck, or maybe I ‘ll see him at NJ this weekend.

I invited my guy to Rhinebeck, he hasn’t said for sure yet if he wants to go. But I reserved extra hotel rooms in case out-of-town friends are able to make it, so we could use one of those rooms ourselves instead of cancelling when friends don’t come.

In preparation, I will interview my Joe this weekend.

  14. Natalie says:

That is great!!! I would like his autograph too!!

    I love these meme’s. They’re hilarious! I think HWJF is a definite keeper. :)

  18. Kris says:

This is a riot. And I was very impressed that he knows what a swatch is! Maybe a plan for keeping SOs occupied during Rhinebeck and other fiber events is to let them sit around and talk about how much cleaner houses would be if fiber-related pursuits didn’t exist — and how much crazier we would be as a result. ;o)

  19. Risa says:

That was totally what I would expect his answers to be. He is a funny guy. And I’m honored that he could pick out my blog :) Hope he isn’t too terribly bored at Rhinebeck.

  20. Sharon says:

Wow, now there is a man that supports his lady and her habits errrrr hobbies. He is too funny.

  21. Cathy McGuire says:

Jessica, I like the interview with HWJF. As far as hobbies, all the bassoon “stuff” making reeds sure counts. If anyone saw my music/sewing room they’d know.
As far as a clean house? Life is too short to be fixed on a museum clean quality house, does that make it any more a HOME? I think not.

    Have a great weekend.

  22. Heather says:

What a coup! He can carry all your packages:)
