So that new toy I was waiting for the other day? It came!!

What's in the box

What could it be?!

A new drum carder!
(Clickie to biggie. You know you wanna!)

That would be a brand spankin’ new Strauch Finest Doublewide drum carder! Having sold my Lendrum and everything that went with it recently I figure it was time for the investment. My first thought when I opened up the box? “Holy hell what did I do?!?” It’s kind of ginormous. But after getting the pieces in place and making my first batt, I’m quite happy with my purchase. Look at the fluffy goodness!

1st batt!

Yet another sucky indoor at night picture, but you get the idea. I weighed the batt and it turned out to be about 2 3/8 ounces which is definitely not a bad size. Rolled out it’s huge. I think felters would definitely love the batts that come off this baby (although not this one since it’s superwash merino). I know I can’t wait to have enough angora to start blending stuff for myself. I even worked on the giant bag o’ cormo that I’ve got washed last night in preparation for that day.

I spent some quality time with this book during the week and I’ve got some solid color dyed fiber drying at home as I type, so my weekend plans involve parking myself with the carder in front of some football and making a bunch of batts for the festival booth. :) Considering the weather (and the fact that I’ve apparently done something to my left knee that isn’t going to resolve itself quickly), I think that’s a good plan.

There’s some finished spinning in my world too.

DC Sunrise superwash

Hope you aren’t tired of looking at this colorway because there’s at least two more skeins of it to come. ;) This one is about 812 yards and was on superwash merino. It will be on its way to its new owner tomorrow. It’s definitely tough to let this one go, but hopefully it will spread a ray of sunshine in its new home.

Hope y’all have a great weekend and stay dryer than I am!!

P.S. I totally think this might need to be my next wheel!

The drum carder looks awesome … sooooo jealous. Any chance you might save some of those yummy batts for your Etsy shop? For those of us north of the border who are deprived of such wonderful things like Sheep & Wool festivals :)

I can’t wait to come over and play with your new toy! And if you do get a new wheel, just PROMISE me that you won’t start wearing a loose white diaper/robe thing and stop wearing shoes! ;)

“So that new toy I was waiting for the other day? It came!!”
And my mind switched it around to ‘A Camel’. That caused a bit of a double take. Maybe I should leave the computer screen now.

Also, thank you for that link to the E-Charkha. I would spin cotton if I could have one of those, and power my tv habit in the process!
