You might have heard about this thing that’s been going on for a little over a month now. It’s called the Summer of Socks 2009. It’s this little thing where you knit socks during the summer right along with a bunch of other people.

Heard of it?

Probably not much if you’ve been hanging around these parts. Somehow my sock knitting mojo has not exactly been on fire. But at least I finally have an FO to show.

Leyburn Socks

Leyburn Socks

Pattern: Leyburn by MintyFresh
Yarn: Socks that Rock mediumweight in Purple Rain
Needles: US 2
Knit: June 21-July 24, 2009

Yep. It’s taken well over a month for me to get one stinkin’ pair of socks done for SOS this year. This has nothing to do with the pattern. The pattern is lovely, well written and actually goes along quite quickly, especially on sport weight yarn. The problem resides solely with yours truly who has been distracted by about eleventy billion different things this summer. I mean, it’s pretty, it’s a sock, what’s not to love?!?

Leyburn Socks

*sigh*

I’d finished at least two pair by this time last year and more than that the year before. Ah well. Just remember the mantra!

NO STRESS!!!

Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to go figure out what the next distraction will be. ;)

    It is gorgeous. Great job!

It’s not like you don’t have a few things on your plate right now.

Remember knitting is fun and relaxing not a race. The socks do work well with that pattern and yarn.
    Peace and Yarn,

If it makes you feel any better, I haven’t even *cast on* a pair of socks since finishing a long-languishing pair earlier this month. So that brings me to 1/2 a pair completed for SoS. But I’m not going to stress about it–there are plenty of other things in life to stress us out, and knitting should not be one of them!

  4. DPUTiger says:

Yeah, last year I finished one pair of socks during each two-week period with the exception of the last one (my sock knitting time was consumed by Clapotis-knitting for my friend who was attacked on the first day of the Beijing Olympics). This year? I’ve finished a grand total of one pair, and I cast those on just before Memorial Day!

But you’re right. It’s NO STRESS! As long as you’re enjoying your summer, that’s all that matters!

It’s a lovely sock. I’m not getting as many socks knit as I’d like either. C’est la vie ma belle :)

Yeah – just like Sneaksleep – my sock in progress (ok, the one I’ve been actually “working” on) has totally been the whatever, random project. Which doesn’t say much for it considering the amount of knitting I’ve gotten done lately. I should really fit some knitting or spinning in with what little free time I’ve had instead of thinking about the stress…

Blame me and the Tour. I don’t mind. I blame you for enough stuff. *L*

    xo

Nice socks, I love the little swags. Huh, shiny? Uh, I forgot what I was going to say next….

  9. Nancy says:

Your socks turned out great! Love the pattern and STR colorway!

I was gung-ho last summer and knit 7 pairs…I’m working on pair #2 now for this SOS and maybe will have 3 or 4 pairs done by the end of the summer. Maybe not ;o)

I’m definitely on the low-stress rung right now…

They are such pretty socks! So what if you don’t have as many done. I got one pair done and 1/2 of the second done. Need to finish the heel and get it done so I can get DH’s promised socks on the needles before it gets cold. Low stress is the way to go (and hospitals don’t make for the best knitting!–new grandson coming today!)

  11. Elizabeth says:

Those are lovely! I got half way through through my second sock and had a yarn incident. I have been sulking ever since. Maybe now that tdf is over I’ll go back and finish it.

  12. Elinor says:

Agreed! No stress! No stress is better than six thousand pairs of socks. I haven’t even finished one pair this summer, I’ve been so busy at work. Wah. Getting back to school is actually going to be GOOD for my knitting this year. Who knew? The Leyburns are gorgeous.

The socks look great. I knit a pair myself and I liked the pattern well enough, but I think I got a little bored with it. I love that STR colorway, though! I think I might need to get a skein. Socks have been taking me a lot longer then “normal”, too. I’ve got that same thing going on – tons of distractions left and right! Just remember… No stress!! :)

  14. opal says:

lovely leyburns and great mantra! :D

  15. Ceci says:

Love the colorway and the pattern :-) Great job even tho you are not feeling the mojo. There are no knitting police, so no stress. Knit what you want when you want at whatever pace you go. Okie dokie?

  16. DebbieQ says:

Oh those are lovely. And remember, this is a no stress SOS so we are all just coasting through and enjoying our time with the tiny needles.

  17. Tina M. says:

    You be kind to yourself!

The socks are beautiful, I love that pattern for busy yarn, it really works with almost anything and shows it off so well. Great job. :)
