I have my first FO of the year, but it isn’t a winner. I know they can’t all be winners, but the first FO of a new year??

Red Rings Pullover

They can't all be winners - Red Rings Pullover

Pattern: Red Rings Pullover by Tonia Barry
Yarn: Dream in Color Classy in Ruby River, 4 skeins
Needles: US 8
Knit: 11.27.09-1.3.09

I was told that this yarn stretches a lot so I made the 35 inch size instead of what I normally would have picked, 38. The yarn definitely stretched a lot, but not 3 inches worth. I probably should have seen that one coming but I was impatient (something the universe has been bringing to my attention a lot lately) and it was just supposed to be a simple yoked pullover for cryin’ out loud!

Ahem.

So the body is short and so are the arms and it’s a bit tight for wearing anywhere but the yoga studio. Which, incidentally is really the silver lining since I’ve found myself needing a few layering pieces for such things lately. It’s been suggested that I could pick up the hem and knit down and I certainly have the extra yarn but honestly? I’m done with it. So done with it I couldn’t even be bothered to wait for daylight to get a decent picture of it.

I’m on a mission right now to clean off the needles to prepare myself to dive into the wedding knitting I have planned. In my noble attempt to do just that I’ve finally pulled these out of hibernation:

Vespergyle Mitten #2 progress

Vespergyle Mittens that I cast on for last February!! (Gah!) Being knit in Harrisville Shetland. Mitten #1 is done except for the thumb. Mitten #2 has seen more progress than pictured at this point but seems to be slow and agonizing work. These were originally intended for HWJF but I’m not sure he wants them now. I had also originally intended to make a matching pair for myself with the colors reversed but I don’t see that happening. And of course I bought the yarn in cones instead of hanks so I have a ton leftover. Anyone want to buy some shetland yarn??

Finally, I’ve made it through my first week of the 365 Project.

SP Week 1

Here’s hoping I make it through 51 more!

I love those mittens. Also the ones in your photo montage.

I’ve already crapped out on the 365 for this year. Never even started, actually. The mittens do look good, but I understand if you aren’t “feeling it”

I think that looks like a fabulous yoga studio sweater. Afterall, every yoga teacher in training needs to look the part, right?

  4. Cookie says:

Now that you’ve got that out of the way, everything else you knit this year will be fabulous and perfect. (Not that your sweater wasn’t nice. Just a tiny bit off.)

    How does the wedding spinning?

  5. Angie says:

Excellent yoga sweater! It looks great for it. Just a slight misdirection but not all that far off the trail. No way is it a bad omen. I would say a good one, considering how great it looks.

    Love the 365 photos

Looks like it would fit me ;)

Yay for the 365 and pretty corrugated knitting. that stuff takes forever!

  7. Ina says:

Of course it’s not an omen, unless the meaning is you need more yoga wear.

I love that picture of you in the car! In regards to the sweater – it’s not an omen. Plus you can always reclaim the yarn – that’s the cool thing about knitting :)

I’m so intrigued with that lamp behind you. Details! Did you paint the shade? Is that a cat hanging on the side?

  9. Bams says:

    I don’t think it’s a bad omen either, but I don’t really believe in omens, soooooo . .

It is actually not too bad and i bet you know somebody who it would fit perfectly and would love it very very much, which turns a not quite into a just right (yes, I realize that was grotesque).

  10. Beverly says:

IMHO… add to the length of the sweater and it will be just fine… it looks too short.
Love the mittens.. but I really love the pic of you driving in the car LOL
