  2. [...] 2009 And finally we come to this year, which has been one of big highs and big lows and big life changes. We started off with an awesome little getaway to Portland where we enjoy art and snow and all things wonderful about Maine. I complete my first steeked sweater with a little help. I finally found a studio that I love and return to yoga classes. Then we head for Chicago for MLA and I get the best surprise ever. [...]

What a great decade review! It’s always interesting to me to read about where other people were years ago and I enjoyed reading your history.

I was recently thinking about the last 10 years and it’s really hard to believe that I graduated high school in 2000 and shortly after went into the US Navy for 4.5 years… and then all the stuff that followed. Where does the time go?

This year has definitely been a good one, with all it’s ups and downs. I’m so glad I got to meet you in person this year and look forward to future fiber festivals! I wish you a fantastic and happy 2010 :)

  4. Eklectika says:

Nice review! And holy crap – have we really known each other that long already?

  5. opal says:

what a great review. thanks for taking me along your life journey!

  6. michelle says:

I love happy endings! Didn’t realize I’d been lurking on your blog for so long! lol… Happy 2010!

  7. amy/DPUTiger says:

See, the reason I haven’t done a “Decade in Review” is that it would be dead boring. UCLA x8, Pittsburgh x2. Done. I loved reading your story, though. Awesome!

  8. Sairy says:

I’m sorry but how is something TOO orange for that boy?

  9. Tina M. says:

Wow. I don’t think I could sum up the last 10 years if I tried. Much of the first three years is not only undocumented, but flat out depressing. I like yours much better!

It’s fabulous to see how far you’ve comes, you should be very, very proud of yourself. :)

  10. Kim says:

WOW that’s a whirlwind 10 yrs. And life just gets better & better don’t you think! Glad you are in my life!

  11. Cookie says:

I’m just going to sit here and sniffle for a while. I am so proud of you and how far you’ve come.

    xo

  12. Jennifer says:

What a delightful journey down your decade in review/memory lane. Hope this next decade brings many more exciting adventures for you.

  13. Jen says:

Your Ishbel is beautiful! I’ve seen so many beautiful versions of that pattern. I’ll have to try it out!

  14. Ina says:

Happy New Year! Wishing you a happy, healthy, and prosperous 2010!!

  15. LisaRae says:

So pleased to be part of your ‘orbit’ through knitting and MLA – sorry I don’t think we met at the Vancouver meeting, alas.

    “Ditto” Ina’s good wishes!!

    Lisa

  16. Harriet says:

What a great review. I feel like I know you so much better now. I can’t wait to see you at the next event that puts us both in the same place at the same time.

  17. Ida says:

I love those mittens. Also the ones in your photo montage.

  18. amy/DPUTiger says:

I’ve already crapped out on the 365 for this year. Never even started, actually. The mittens do look good, but I understand if you aren’t “feeling it”

  19. Anne says:

I think that looks like a fabulous yoga studio sweater. Afterall, every yoga teacher in training needs to look the part, right?

  20. Cookie says:

Now that you’ve got that out of the way, everything else you knit this year will be fabulous and perfect. (Not that your sweater wasn’t nice. Just a tiny bit off.)

    How does the wedding spinning?

  21. Angie says:

Excellent yoga sweater! It looks great for it. Just a slight misdirection but not all that far off the trail. No way is it a bad omen. I would say a good one, considering how great it looks.

    Love the 365 photos

  22. Risa says:

Looks like it would fit me ;)

Yay for the 365 and pretty corrugated knitting. that stuff takes forever!

  23. Ina says:

Of course it’s not an omen, unless the meaning is you need more yoga wear.

  24. michelle says:

I love that picture of you in the car! In regards to the sweater – it’s not an omen. Plus you can always reclaim the yarn – that’s the cool thing about knitting :)

I’m so intrigued with that lamp behind you. Details! Did you paint the shade? Is that a cat hanging on the side?

  25. Bams says:

    I don’t think it’s a bad omen either, but I don’t really believe in omens, soooooo . .

It is actually not too bad and i bet you know somebody who it would fit perfectly and would love it very very much, which turns a not quite into a just right (yes, I realize that was grotesque).

  26. Beverly says:

IMHO… add to the length of the sweater and it will be just fine… it looks too short.
Love the mittens.. but I really love the pic of you driving in the car LOL

  27. opal says:

i’m with cookie, from now on all your knitting will be fabulous since you’ve gotten that one bit out of the way. and like she said, it’s not awful, it’s just a wee bit off.

  28. penny says:

all those bassoons warm my heart. i don’t know where this week, or january has gone for that matter….

  29. Anne says:

Am I the only one who finds it amusing that you are the one doing the bed jumping, and HWJF is just looking like his evil plan is working? You know, the world domination plan, of course.

  30. Cookie says:

    You two are adorable.

  31. amy/DPUTiger says:

The Universe has a plan. You will be OK and it’s good that you recognize you’re having first-world problems. Just think. This time next year, you’ll be Mrs. HWFJ! ;-) As long as the big stuff is good, you’ll be fine. Love the bed-jumping picture BTW

  32. Angie says:

Switching up stuff is so difficult but hopefully things will smooth out and be okay in a few weeks. I really love the bed jumping pic. Makes me hum the monkey song. :D Five little monkeys…..

  33. Eklectika says:

    Bed jumping is the best!!!!

  34. Kris says:

Love that picture of you two jumping on the bed.

Sorry to hear about your new commute. What a pain. :o (

  35. Bams says:

I need a lesson from you on colorwork. Yours always looks so nice and even and perfect and mine NEVER looks that pretty!

  36. Tina M. says:

I love the photos at the end, you two are awesome! I fully believe that a couple who has fun together is destined for future happiness. :)

I hope the changes go through as smoothly as possible, despite everything. I cried when I changed positions in my company and lost my big oak desk, and beautiful country views for a cube with nary a window in sight. I like the work I do now more, but I still miss some of the things that made the old job great.

  37. Tina M. says:

The mittens look lovely, and what a relief that you can enjoy them while it’s cold out! I need to finish my Tilt sweater so I can say the same thing. :P

The sock is gorgeous, and maybe now that you’ve picked it back up you’ll fall back in love with it?

  38. Ina says:

Adorable mittens! Argyles… they’re not just for socks anymore!

  39. amy/DPUTiger says:

I don’t have a lot of stray UFO’s wandering around here, which is good and bad. The good is that there aren’t many (knitting) projects sitting around here taunting me. Bad news is that I won’t have as strong of a start on the STASH KAL as I did the first time around. Oh well. I do love those Vespergyle mittens, and if they weren’t so … red … I’d make you an offer on that yarn. ;-)

  40. Beverly says:

That yarn would be PERFECT for a Daybreak shawl right???

  41. Kris says:

Love the way the argyle pattern in the mittens is so subtle. Well done!

  42. Harriet says:

Oooh pretty mittens! I’m so afraid of colorwork, it’s crazy. I’m in awe of your prowess. Pretty sock too! Glad you’re back in your fibery groove!

  43. Ceci says:

LOVE the mittens!!!!! And what a nice design on the socks. Fabulous projects :-)

  44. Lisa says:

Hmmm – good call on the remaining yarn for the mittens…HOW DIFFERENT would the ‘reverse colourway’ BE, anyway? [not enough to be worth the trauma, methinks!] Go for a shawl!!! :-)

  45. Brandy says:

    Beautiful spinning there!

  46. Diane says:

If Cookie can’t make it, I’m guessing she has some lieutenants to fill in! Ten minutes a day for spinning the wedding shawl and then you can play with color.

    Hope you’re feeling better soon.

  47. Tina M. says:

*grin* Procrastination, it’s the name of the game. I feel your pain, woman, I really do! Maybe if you made a point to spin on the shawl yarn for 30 minutes on Saturday and the same on Sundays? Or whatever days work for you? Working on mom’s wedding shawl for my breaks and lunch every day (effectively an hour total) and then working on whatever I wanted for the evenings and weekends really helped me stay on track.

All in all, the spinning looks lovely! Good luck with your sweater plans. You are far, far more ambitious than I. I shall root for you!

  48. Beverly says:

Awesome!!!!! Looking forward to SAL… going to start on the 12th as a combo Ravelympic thing ( yeah yeah… I know CHEATER!) I call it multi-tasking LOL

  49. Anne says:

Hey, you! Get to work on that wedding shawl spinning! Because if it’s not done, I will be forced to find the most hideous wedding shawl imaginable from Regretsy and you will wear it. Am I making myself clear? Ahem. The rest of your spinning is lovely.

  50. amy/DPUTiger says:

Do 30 minutes or so on the wedding shawl, then play with color. You can doooo eeet!
