Another Monday means it’s time for another Favorite to come out and play!

Fishknit scarf (2)

This is the Fishknit Wrap from Morehouse Merino. Y’all know how much I love their yarns by now and this was one of the first things I ever bought from them on my first trip to the (now very sadly closed) store. It requires one skein of their bulky yarn knit on size 11 or 13 needles. And the coolest thing about it- you get to drop stitches at the end! I remember knitting this one during yet another couple of meetings of my New Haven SnB. When it came time to drop the stitches and cast off, one of the other members of the group helped me pull apart the scarf so that the dropped stitches would ladder down properly. It was quite fun and made a bit of a scene in a public place!

This is the first scarf I go for when the weather starts to get cold in the fall. I also tend to reach for it at home if I’m not feeling well or am a little chilly. It’s soft and cozy and just the thing to keep me warm or make me feel better. I’m seriously thinking about making another one from the leftovers of this sweater sometime soon.

Do you have a favorite scarf that you always reach for?

I thought with the New Year upon us and all it might be a good time to take a look back on some of my favorite Finished Objects of the past. So for the next few weeks I’ll be sharing a different older finished object with you. This week it’s my favorite knitting bag.

Fiber trends bag

I made this probably over three years ago when I was living in CT and just getting back into knitting. I think it might have been one of the first projects I brought when I first started going to a knitting meetup in New Haven. I remember driving out to an LYS that I hadn’t been to before and picking out the yarn and really not having a clue about felting, but wanting to give it a try.

The pattern came from a Fiber Trends leaflet (Fabulous Felt Totes (AC-43) by Leigh Radford to be exact. Thank you Ravelry!). I remember it having three bags on the front and they all used novelty yarn at the top of the bag. I left that out and instead decided to use four different colors of Lopi to give it some interest. The handles on this bag are particularly strong and I remember they were some kind of modified I-cord that used about 6 stitches. The rest of the bag was knit holding two strands together on something like size 11 needles and was absolutely ginormous before felting! I used my parent’s washing machine, much to their chagrin at the time, but everything worked out fine and I would count this among the best of the accessory type items I’ve ever knit.

These days I use this bag when I’m taking projects on the train that won’t fit in my regular commuting bag. It’s big enough for any sweater I would knit and has room for an instruction book too. It’s also probably the piece of knitting I get the most complements on among other knitters.

So what are some of your favorite knits?
