How’s the first week been for you?
We are one week into SOS2007! I really enjoyed reading all of the introductions that came in over the past week. If you haven’t read them or posted yours yet, get over there and check it out!
So how’s this first week been for you? Have you had any triumphs or defeats? Revelations? Reassurances? Let us all know how things are going for you so far in the comments!
I also wanted to let you all know that the prizes are posted!
Check them out by clicking on the link under “Pages” in the sidebar. In addition to the prizes you’ll find some quite tantalizing offers for discounts just for YOU as an SOS participant! Be sure to give them a read. Thanks again to all our sponsors!
Just a reminder to get your entries in for the Weekly Link Contest! One of those sets of beautiful stitch markers you see on the prize page could be yours! And to answer a question from the comments, yes you can resubmit a link you sent previously if it didn’t win. I’ll be updating the rules page shortly to reflect that.
I’m also working on some kind of map for the blog so we can see where we’re all located. If anyone knows of a good plugin for wordpress that will fit in the sidebar, do send me an e-mail and let me know.
Expect our first blog update early next week. I can’t wait to read about everything you’ve all been doing! Until then…
Sock on!!!

The prizes are fabulous….although I’m a little sad that so many of them go for the most socks knitted.
What about all of us slowpokes who, despite trying our mightiest, can only turn out socks in small numbers? Perhaps someone can come up with some way to honor the slightly differently knitting-abled—you know, kind of like the special class!
Really, everything looks great and lots of fun!

My revelation? Don’t start with socks knit at 10 stitches/inch. They seemed to take forever!

Sloooow knitting this week! I only managed to knit one round on each sock yesterday. One round. Not even one pattern repeat.

I finished one sock my first week. Definitely slower than people like the infamous Wendy Knits ( who appears to have finished two pair), but, you know, if I kept it up that’d be two dozen pairs of socks a year. That’s a lot of socks. And I had a buzy week.
Turning the heel was a blast. I used Wendy’s toe-up gusset pattern. I could see and understand what was happening as I knit along. What a rush.
There are several new-to-me sources of yarn in the prize donors list. I’ll spend an afternoon cheking them out soon. But not until after I get back from taking my sock to Vegas next week.

Note - I finished one sock at a gauge of about 6.5 sts per inch, while Wendy had that pair at 10. When I’ve knit as many socks as Wendy has, maybe I’ll finish a 10 sts per inch sock in a week. With a pattern stitch.
Wendy’s 10 spi socks are gorgeous. Go look at them.
My sock fits, so I’m jazzed.

KarenJoSeattle — Thanks for the kind words about my socks — but I think you should look up the word “infamous.” I respectfully submit that I have done nothing to be considered infamous.

I had a great false start, but am recovering nicely. I’m learning to love fraternal socks, which is not easy because I have control issues. /hangs head in shame
Hopefully, I’ll have something to show Sunday. I hope…

I refuse to accept defeat, but I always triumph because I believe in the 3 Ps: Persistence, Patience, and Plaas (that’s me!). I have a bit of a different goal than knitting the most socks–my goal is to learn the most new sock knitting techniques. I’ll say more about this on my blog to save space, but let’s just say I’ve already learned a lot and had a few revelations along the way
Sock On!

Wendy, I’m the child of a county English-teaching specialist with a sometimes too dry sense of humor. I merely meant to refer to your slightly disreputable tendency to leave us all in the dust. Sorry if my quip veered too far to the sardonic.
Loved the heel from your pattern, too, by the way.

Well, I have done about 2 inches of my first sock. I’m with Deb about us slowpoke knitters. I think the fact that I had the courage to even join this thing–to put my pathetic attempts at socknitting up against the likes of Wendy–deserves a little recognition.
I’ll have a weekly update up on my blog in the next day or so.

I have to agree- I’ve finished one pair of socks, and I had started those BEFORE SOS started. I’ve got the toe and about an inch, inch and a half knitted on the first sock of my second pair. How about a “Valiant Effort” award?
(mind you I have had the time for knitting, but you see my friend just bought a DS, and I’m trying to keep my Pokemon at the same level as hers . . .)

Becky, I’m not entering the “most socks” contest. I joined this knit-along for the fun of knitting socks along with like-minded people and stretching my sock horizons by creating some new patterns. I’m not in it for speed or glory.

Wendy, I didn’t mean to imply that you were looking for glory or anything. I just mentioned your name because you are the fastest sock knitter I know of at the moment.
